Hello, Doer of the word!

*We are looking for one Administrative Manager who is willing to volunteer five hours per week for General Conference Applied. If you or someone you know is willing to join us in a big way, please reply to this email and let us know.*

Do you or someone you know have a story related to a conference talk or connection to the speaker? Reply and let's talk! We need all the help we can get to find podcast guests. We all have stories. Even if you don't think you're anyone special, your story may be exactly what another listener needs to hear!

REFERRAL PROGRAM. Between now and Christmas Day 2025, for anyone who refers five people to the General Conference Applied Newsletter, we will send you (by the end of 2025) the following two general conference invitations files: 1) A Google Spreadsheet with a tab for every October 2025 General Conference address; 2) A PDF with a page for every October 2025 General Conference address. You receive these files one page at a time in each of our Invitations newsletters, but this will package the invitations into one file, and you won’t have to wait an extra five weeks to receive the invitations for all the addresses. To receive this gift, here are the steps:

  • Reply to any Newsletter email (or email us directly) and provide the email addresses for the five people who signed up for the General Conference Applied Newsletter because of your referral (i.e., this only applies to those who subscribed to the Newsletter after 9:00 p.m. MST on Thursday, December 4, 2025).

  • As long as those five people are still active subscribers as of Christmas Day 2025, we will email your gift to you.

Let's dive into the invitations from Elder B. Corey Cuvelier's October 2025 General Conference address, "The Name by Which Ye Are Called."

Invitations

1 - "King Benjamin powerfully taught .... 'I would that ye should take upon you the name of Christ.' ... What does it mean to be called by the name of Christ? It means making and keeping covenants, always remembering Him, keeping His commandments, and being 'willing … to stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things.' It means standing with prophets and apostles as they carry Christ’s message—with its doctrine, covenants, and ordinances—across the world. It also means serving others to relieve suffering, being a light, and bringing hope in Christ to all people. Of course, this is a lifelong pursuit."

2 - "[I]t’s easy to get caught up in worldly titles. These yield only temporary value and will never be enough on their own. Redemption and the things of eternity only 'cometh in and through the Holy Messiah.' Therefore, following prophetic counsel to make discipleship a priority is both timely and wise, especially in an age of so many competing voices and influences."

  • Application Idea: Some questions for us all to ponder:

    • Is there someone I'd be overawed to meet in person, due to his or her celebrity or position? Would I honestly rather spend an hour one-on-one with Taylor Swift, Lionel Messi, Warren Buffett (insert any famous actor, athlete, author, musician, politician, business titan, etc.) or alone with the Lord's spirit as He gives me guiding inspiration for my life?

    • Is there a worldly title or status I'm devoting irresponsible levels of effort and resources to obtain for my own prideful reasons at the expense of more important people and duties?

  • Application Idea: Here are a few resources you can study on this topic:

3 - Go about doing good—"Perhaps the greatest sermons are the ones we never hear but those we see in the quiet, unassuming actions and deeds observed in the lives of ordinary people who, trying to be like Jesus, go about doing good. ... Let us strive to follow Christ's example, doing good and making discipleship a lifelong priority so that each time we interact with others, they will feel God's love and the confirming power of the Holy Ghost. ... In the end, our identity isn't defined by the world. But our discipleship is defined by the ordinances we receive, the covenants we keep, and the love we show to God and neighbor by simply doing good."

  • Application Idea: My ward's 2026 mission plan includes many suggestions for building relationships with our neighbors, missionaries, and ward family. At its core, the plan could be summarized, "go about doing good."

    • Here are some of the ideas: host a game night, potluck dinner, block party, or backyard movie night; organize a hike; invite someone to lunch; follow the missionaries on Facebook and share an uplifting story on their page; learn the missionaries' goals and hobbies and invite them to teach a skill; volunteer to help at Zone Conference; assist the ward activities committee; add your photo to the LDS Tools app (ward directory); give and accept help to/from ward members.

4 - "[Live] the gospel as described in the book of Alma: 'They did not send away any … that were hungry, or that were athirst, or that were sick, … they were liberal to all, both old and young, … both male and female.' And, a point we should not overlook, they did not send away any 'whether out of the church or in the church.'"

  • Application Idea: Our guest, Seth Boyle, once called a non-member to be the ward organist. Check out our episode for that great story. I lived in a ward where two non-member professional musician neighbors accepted invitations to play a few songs at the ward Christmas party. Whether in a church leadership position or not, get to know your neighbors' abilities and find ways to invite them to participate.

General Conference Applied S6 E39. 200th Episode! Danger & Miracles—One LDS Family, 6 German Missionaries!—Elder Cuvelier, "The Name by Which Ye Are Called" - Amazon Music | Apple Podcasts | Spotify | YouTube. For our 200th episode(!), Clay and Mitch were joined by special guest, Seth Boyle. Elder Cuvelier is a soccer (football) player and shared a powerful story of a German ancestor. Seth Boyle has coached and refereed at some of the highest levels, including some girls who've gone on to win gold medals and a Ballon d'Or Féminin (global player of the year). The Boyle family also has a special missionary connection to Germany. In addition to Seth's own service in East Germany at a time of massive Cold War unrest and change, his father, brother, and three daughters were all called to Germany. Gear up for a meaningful discussion and great stories!

Clay's Application: Elder Cuvelier taught, "Brothers and sisters, by which name are you called? Jesus called His followers by many names: Disciples. Sons and daughters. Children of the prophets. Sheep. Friends. The light of the world. Saints. Each carries eternal significance and underscores a personal relationship with the Savior. But among these names, one rises above the rest—the name of Christ." Similar to how we've been counseled to ponder the many scriptural names of Jesus to better understand Him and our relationship to Him, I want to ponder His names to learn the various traits and roles He expects me to grow into.

Mitch's Application: I will read Prophets I Have Known: Joseph Anderson Shares Life's Experiences by Joseph Anderson.
