Hello, Doer of the word!
Let's dive into the invitations from Elder Clark G. Gilbert's April 2026 General Conference address, "Come Home."
Invitations
1 - "We all struggle. We need patience, service, and love from others."
Application Idea: Honestly ask yourself: "Am I willing to serve and help other people, but struggle to be the recipient of service and help?" If yes, name that tendency for what it is (pride) and spend some time studying and praying for the spiritual gifts of humility and gratitude. Preach My Gospel ch. 6 and Pres. Uchtdorf's 2014 talk "Grateful in Any Circumstances" are a great place to start.
2 - "To those who are trying to help those they love, hold on to the truth. Keep your covenants. Helping others requires you to stay in your covenants."
Application Idea: Remember the pre-flight safety briefing direction regarding oxygen masks that Elder Neil L. Andersen shared in 2014: "Be sure to adjust your own mask before helping others. ... The negative commentary about the Prophet Joseph Smith [and the church in general] will increase as we move toward the Second Coming of the Savior. The half-truths and subtle deceptions will not diminish. There will be family members and friends who will need your help. Now is the time to adjust your own spiritual oxygen mask so that you are prepared to help others who are seeking the truth."
3 - "The Savior loves all of us and is tenderly calling for you and for me to come home. Come home."
Application Idea: Elder Gilbert shared stories of ministering to those who:
Feel they don't belong
Feel they don't measure up
Doubt
Are trapped in traditions
Consider whether your ministering families are struggling in any of these ways. If so, get ideas of how you could help them by rereading that section of Elder Gilbert's talk to see what their ministers did. If you can't yet answer the question, start smaller by getting to know them and building trust.
4 - "[One couple] moved away from family so it would be easier for them to walk away from their faith. But the hero of this story was their eight-year-old son, who still wanted to be baptized. Sensing an opening door, a wise stake president scheduled a ministering visit...."
Application Idea: The highest form of ministering is to love as the Savior does and to help people come unto Him by making sacred covenants with Him. We've been counseled to focus on the next ordinance available for each member of our ministering families, like this stake president did.
