Hello, Doer of the word! Let's dive into the invitations from Elder Quentin L. Cook's October 2025 General Conference address, "The Lord Is Hastening His Work."

Invitations

  1. "We should be profoundly grateful for the hastening, which has occurred and is occurring despite these challenging times."

    • Application Idea: In the United States, Thanksgiving Day is on Thursday, November 27, 2025. Consider offering a prayer of gratitude, not asking for anything, making sure to remember the hastening of the Lord's work in your expression of gratitude.

  2. "My counsel to the members of the Church is to wrap our arms around these precious, elect people who have accepted the gospel of Jesus Christ. ... [W]e pray the blessings of heaven will attend your efforts to progress along the covenant path. ... As the Lord hastens His work, we should love, nurture, and serve those who accept His gospel. ... We can be among the friends who assure these new converts that they belong and are not just guests. We can help them understand that they are disciples of Jesus Christ who can minister to others and accept callings to serve."

    • Application Idea: Invite new converts or those who have recently returned to activity in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to worship with you in the temple.

  3. "To those of you who are new or returning to the faith, there are challenges you may face. Be patient with yourself. ... Young converts should consider serving a full-time mission. All should be determined to strive to live a Christlike life. ... Focus on the covenants necessary for exaltation. ... [P]reparing yourself for the temple should be an immediate goal."

    • Application Idea: If you are a new convert or someone who has recently returned to activity in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, you may not be familiar with the Christlike Attribute Activity in chapter six of Preach My Gospel. Consider completing this activity utilizing the spreadsheet that Mitch and Clay have created (whether you're a new convert, someone who has recently return to activity in the Church of Jesus Christ, or someone who just wants to become more like Jesus Christ! | Google Sheets

  4. "The gospel is not a test of knowledge. However, as President Nelson has promised: 'As you prayerfully study the Book of Mormon every day, you will make better decisions—every day. … As you ponder what you study, the windows of heaven will open, and you will receive answers to your own questions and direction for your own life.' ... Regular study of the scriptures will bless and enrich your life by deepening your conversion to the gospel of Jesus Christ."

    • Application Idea: Pick a topic to focus on in your study of the Book of Mormon. Once you have selected a topic, devote time every day to studying the Book of Mormon until you have read it cover-to-cover. (As an example, Mitch has been studying the Book of Mormon during 2025 focusing on "precepts to abide by.")

  5. "All members, especially new and returning ones, would be blessed by studying and adopting [President Russell M. Nelson's] prophetic messages on covenants and the covenant path."

  6. "If you set a goal of worthily receiving each covenant necessary for exaltation, you will be on the path that leads to the celestial kingdom. The temple and the ordinances of the temple should be our focus. Most covenants are available to each individual. One covenant, eternal marriage, involves uniting your efforts with a companion. Our goal should be to find that eternal companion. However, do not get discouraged if eternal marriage is not possible at this time."

    • Application Idea: Consider how often you are currently attending the temple, and then double that cadence. (Thanks to Josiah Boornazian, our guest in S6 E14 (see below), for this fantastic suggestion!) In other words, if you are currently attending the temple monthly, begin attending twice per month.

  7. "As we contemplate the challenges of our day, we must remember that the Savior, during His earthly ministry, also lived in turbulent and violent times. His focus was not on the political challenges of the day; it was on the perfection of the Saints."

    • Application Idea: If you currently check the news and/or social media before you pray and study the scriptures each day, change the order. Nurture your relationship with Heavenly Father and ground yourself in the gospel of Jesus Christ first thing in the morning before you do anything else. Then you'll be able to better handle the news and social media later in the day.

Take Action

  • Clay's Application: I'll act on President Nelson's and Kimball's invitations (footnote 26) by reading, not just listening to, at least one page of the Book of Mormon each day.

  • Mitch's Application: I will read Doctrine and Covenants 124 - 138, the Articles of Faith, and Official Declarations 1-2 between now (10/30/2025) and the end of 2025. In 2026, I will read the entire Old Testament from cover-to-cover, focusing specifically on temple language.

  • Your Application: Reply to this email and tell us how you'll take action on one of these invitations and whether we can share your response in our newsletter, podcast, and/or on social media.
