Hello, Doer of the word!

*We are looking for one Administrative Manager who is willing to volunteer five hours per week for General Conference Applied. If you or someone you know is willing to join us in a big way, please reply to this email and let us know.*

Do you or someone you know have a story related to a conference talk or connection to the speaker? Reply and let's talk! We need all the help we can get to find podcast guests. We all have stories. Even if you don't think you're anyone special, your story may be exactly what another listener needs to hear!

Let's dive into the invitations from Elder William K. Jackson's October 2025 General Conference address, "Remembering the Sheep."

Invitations

1 - "[Jesus Christ] patterned shepherding and taught us by word and deed the qualities of a good shepherd, including knowing your sheep by name, loving them, finding those that are lost, feeding, and, ultimately, leading them back home again. He expects us to do the same as His undershepherds."

  • Application Idea: There is power when we learn others' names. In a Tribute to President Russell M. Nelson (broadcast), Bishop Gérald Caussé shared that President Nelson's ability to remember names was not only a reflection of a sharp mind, but "reflected a true shepherd's heart." Like anything, developing the skill of remembering names takes effort and practice. Elder Paul B. Pieper of the Seventy shared on Facebook how President Nelson worked with the Lord in this effort. Commit to learning and remembering others' names - especially the families to whom you minister, the people who live around you, your coworkers, and the members of your ward.

2 - "Like the shepherd who left the ninety and nine (safe and secure, I am certain) and went after the one that was lost (see Luke 15:4–7), we have been asked to be just as aware of our flocks—to notice and remember and go and do likewise."

  • Application Idea: In his address, Elder Jackson shared the experience of watching a branch president and branch mission leader identify which members of the branch had been missing from sacrament meeting. Immediately after sacrament meeting, the branch mission leader met with branch missionaries in their weekly branch missionary coordination meeting to discuss the names of these individuals. "Within a few minutes, each member of the council had selected a name or two, committing to visit them that very day to make sure that they were OK and to let them know that they had been missed." In your next sacrament meeting, if any of the families to whom you minister are not in attendance, take notes and share your notes from sacrament meeting and second hour with them. You might also consider sharing the experience from Elder Jackson's address with these families beforehand to make sure it would be alright if you shared your notes with them.

3 - "How can we be better shepherds? We can learn to count and account."

  • Application Idea: Journal for 10 minutes on this topic: "What do I learn about the principle of counting from Elder Jackson's address? Then, journal for 10 more minutes on this topic: "What do I learn about the principle of accounting from Elder Jackson's address?

4 - "In the Church of Jesus Christ, we have been instructed by prophets past and prophets present—and by the pattern set by our Savior—how to minister. We take names, we remember, and we counsel over the welfare of souls."

  • Application Idea: If you are married and have children, when was the last time you sat down with your spouse and discussed each of your children by name, one-by-one? And if your children are grown with families of their own, when was the last time you sat down with your spouse and discussed your children's spouses and your grandchildren by name, one-by-one? If it's been awhile, make this the focus of your next date night.

5 - "The principle of counting and accounting works. It is the Lord's way. We can do better. To God, who created the universe and rules over all, this work—His work and glory—is very personal. And so it should be for each of us, as instruments in His hands in His amazing work of salvation and exaltation."

  • Application Idea: This idea is for individuals who, because of their current callings, have the opportunity to participate in a branch or ward council and/or a presidency in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In paragraphs 14 and 15 of his address, Elder Jackson shares contrasting experiences of a ward council in the United States where "all that was discussed was an upcoming ward activity" and a branch council in Pakistan where "all [that the council members] talked about were people. Names." Read these two paragraphs as a branch or ward council and/or presidency in your next branch or ward council meeting and/or presidency meeting and discuss how the council or presidency can do better with "the principle of counting and accounting."
