Hello, Doer of the word!

Let's dive into the invitations from President Henry B. Eyring's April 2026 General Conference address, "Prayers for Peace."

Invitations

1 - "Yet despite turmoil and difficulty, faithful Latter-day Saints in hardship across the world have flooded heaven with prayers. In public and in private, they are petitioning the Lord for help, for comfort, for direction, and for personal peace for those they love. You may have seen in your congregations and in your homes that prayers have not only been more numerous but more heartfelt."

  • Application Idea: On a number of podcast episodes, Clay and I have discussed the importance of praying for others by name. This could be praying for family members, for the families to whom you minister, for each of the children in your primary class, etc. Thinking about your current situation, who can you pray for by name? And, per President Eyring's invitation, especially consider praying "for personal peace" for whoever those individuals may be in your life.

2 - "Opening the windows of heaven through fervent prayer does not require the use of many words or flowery language. Rather, the diligence in prayer which Heavenly Father requires of us is to 'pour out [our] souls' in private places and have our hearts 'drawn out in prayer unto him continually.'"

  • Application Idea: Elder Neal A. Maxwell said: "Given the times in which we live, improving our prayers should be one of our deepest desires." With that in mind, consider reading "A Year of Powerful Prayer: Getting Answers for Your Life Every Day." In the book, "some of the most important and inspirational writings on the topic of prayer from Church leaders, gospel scholars, and other beloved writers have been gathered into 365 daily devotionals."

3 - "Consistent prayer during joyous times and also during seasons of distress and grief will surely be rewarded according to His will and perfect timing."

  • Sister Wendy Nelson Shares Her Personal Witness of President Nelson's Prophetic Calling and Ministry: "[E]arly one Saturday morning, Sister Nelson awoke and knew she was to get out of bed. She was not done sleeping, but she could feel the prompting to 'move out of bed now.' She recalls, 'I went downstairs and did some family history research and then puttered with some other things. … Two hours later, my husband emerged from our bedroom and said, 'Wendy, you won't believe what has been happening for two hours. The Lord has given me detailed instruction about a process I am to follow.'' Other times the Lord has prompted Sister Nelson to stay close to her husband when he is receiving instruction. She explains, 'My husband will say during the night, 'OK, dear, it is happening.' I remain quiet, and then soon he is sitting up on the side of the bed writing.' Sister Nelson said she never reads the private messages the Lord has for President Nelson. Still, she notes, 'I can say that I am a witness by being present, and I am a witness by being absent that the Lord indeed instructs His prophet.'"

  • President Russell M. Nelson, "Joy and Spiritual Survival," October 2016 General Conference: "When the focus of our lives is on God's plan of salvation, … and Jesus Christ and His gospel, we can feel joy regardless of what is happening—or not happening—in our lives. Joy comes from and because of Him. He is the source of all joy."

  • Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, "'Remember Lot's Wife'," BYU Devotional: January 13, 2009

  • Elder Henry B. Eyring, "Proved and Strengthened in Christ," October 2025 General Conference: "I bear witness that these moments are not evidence that the Lord has abandoned you. Rather, they are evidence that He loves you enough to refine and strengthen you. He is making you strong enough to carry the weight of eternal life."

  • Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis: "I find I must borrow yet another parable from George MacDonald. Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on: you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently he starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of - throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were going to be made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace. He intends to come and live in it Himself."

  • Alma 17:2-3 - "[2] Now these sons of Mosiah were with Alma at the time the angel first appeared unto him; therefore Alma did rejoice exceedingly to see his brethren; and what added more to his joy, they were still his brethren in the Lord; yea, and they had waxed strong in the knowledge of the truth; for they were men of a sound understanding and they had searched the scriptures diligently, that they might know the word of God. [3] But this is not all; they had given themselves to much prayer, and fasting; therefore they had the spirit of prophecy, and the spirit of revelation, and when they taught, they taught with power and authority of God."

  • Elder Bruce R. McConkie, "The Purifying Power of Gethsemane," April 1985 General Conference: "And now, as pertaining to this perfect atonement, wrought by the shedding of the blood of God—I testify that it took place in Gethsemane and at Golgotha, and as pertaining to Jesus Christ, I testify that he is the Son of the Living God and was crucified for the sins of the world. He is our Lord, our God, and our King. This I know of myself independent of any other person. I am one of his witnesses, and in a coming day I shall feel the nail marks in his hands and in his feet and shall wet his feet with my tears. But I shall not know any better then than I know now that he is God's Almighty Son, that he is our Savior and Redeemer, and that salvation comes in and through his atoning blood and in no other way."

  • Elder Dallin H. Oaks, "Good, Better, Best," October 2007 General Conference

  • Elder Neil L. Andersen, "My Mind Caught Hold upon This Thought of Jesus Christ," April 2023 General Conference: "Filling our mind with the power of Jesus Christ does not mean that He is the only thought we have. But it does mean that all our thoughts are circumscribed in His love, His life and teachings, and His atoning sacrifice and glorious Resurrection. Jesus is never in a forgotten corner, because our thoughts of Him are always present and 'all that is in [us adores] him!' We pray and rehearse in our mind experiences that have brought us closer to Him. We welcome into our mind divine images, holy scriptures, and inspired hymns to gently cushion the countless daily thoughts rushing through our busy lives. Our love for Him does not shield us from the sadness and sorrow in this mortal life, but it allows us to walk through the challenges with a strength far beyond our own."

  • President Russell M. Nelson, "Drawing the Power of Jesus Christ into Our Lives," April 2017 General Conference: "There is nothing easy or automatic about becoming such powerful disciples. Our focus must be riveted on the Savior and His gospel. It is mentally rigorous to strive to look unto Him in every thought. But when we do, our doubts and fears flee."

  • 1 Nephi 11:16-17 - "[16] And he said unto me: Knowest thou the condescension of God? [17] And I said unto him: I know that he loveth his children; nevertheless, I do not know the meaning of all things."
