Hello, Doer of the word!
*If you’d like to volunteer in helping us encourage more people to take action on inspired invitations from prophets and apostles, please reply to this email and let us know.*
Do you or someone you know have a story related to a conference talk or connection to the speaker? Reply and let's talk! We need all the help we can get to find podcast guests. We all have stories. Even if you don't think you're anyone special, your story may be exactly what another listener needs to hear!
Let's dive into the invitations from Elder Michael Cziesla's October 2025 General Conference address, "Simplicity in Christ."
Invitations
1 - "When the focus of our life is on Christ and His gospel message, we can experience the full blessings of discipleship wherever we live. ... [H]ow can we avoid our eyes becoming blinded and our hearts becoming hardened and remain focused on the 'plain and precious things' of the gospel of Jesus Christ? During a time of confusion, the Apostle Paul gave great advice to the Saints of Corinth by reminding them to focus on 'the simplicity that is in Christ.' ... It may be that we misinterpret simplicity as something that is easy to achieve without effort or diligence. Following Christ requires constant effort and continual change. We need to 'put] off the natural man and … [become like a little] child.' This includes putting our 'trust in the Lord' and letting the complexity go, just as little children do."
Application Idea: In his October 2025 General Conference address, Do Your Part with All Your Heart, Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf shared a list of gifts and invited us to contemplate if we had been blessed with any of them. One of those gifts was: "Explaining things simply." He said: "You might not see these gifts displayed at the ward talent show. But I hope you can see how precious they are to the Lord's work and how you might have touched, blessed, or even saved one of God's children by your gifts. Remember: 'By small and simple things are great things brought to pass.' So let us each do our little part." Cultivate the gift of "explaining things simply" in all areas of your life: in your parenting or grandparenting, in your profession, in your church calling, etc. Regularly ask those to whom you are explaining things to repeat back to you what you explained to them in their own words to measure your improvement with this gift.
2 - "Regularly asking, 'What would the Lord Jesus Christ have me do?' reveals profound direction. ... He invites us all to love God, keep His commandments, and love our neighbor."
Application Idea: President Russell M. Nelson extended the following invitation: "Pray in the name of Jesus Christ about your concerns, your fears, your weaknesses—yes, the very longings of your heart. And then listen! Write the thoughts that come to your mind. Record your feelings and follow through with actions that you are prompted to take. As you repeat this process day after day, month after month, year after year, you will 'grow into the principle of revelation.'" Combine this invitation with Elder Cziesla's invitation. Ask: "What would the Lord Jesus Christ have me do?" Then follow the steps that President Nelson outlined. Elder Cziesla promises that regularly asking this question will "reveal profound direction." Put that promise to the test.
3 - "[C]hoose to follow [Jesus Christ's] example and move forward with faith in Christ, embrace the power of His Atonement, and remember our covenants. ... At times, we may need to distance ourselves from an unhealthy situation or seek professional help. But in every case, applying simple gospel principles will help us navigate through life's challenges in the Lord's way. We sometimes underestimate the strength we receive from simple acts like prayer, fasting, scripture study, daily repentance, partaking of the sacrament weekly, and regular worship in the house of the Lord."
Application Idea: In our most recent Come Listen to a Prophet's Voice Newsletter, Clay mentioned that he was struck by the simplicity of this statement from Elder Dallin H. Oaks' October 2008 General Conference address, Sacrament Meeting and the Sacrament: "[W]hen we join in the solemnity that should always accompany the ordinance of the sacrament and the worship of this meeting—we are qualified for the companionship and revelation of the Spirit. This is the way we get direction for our lives and peace along the way." Take action on Elder Cziesla's invitation by applying simple gospel principles. For the rest of 2026, this might look like the following: morning and evening prayer every day; fast for two meals every Fast Sunday; study the scriptures, especially the Book of Mormon, every day; repent of the sins you committed that day every day in your evening prayer; partake of the sacrament each Sunday (even if - especially if - you're on vacation); and attend the house of the Lord at least once each month. You might also consider studying Elder Quentin L. Cook's April 2008 General Conference address, Give Heed unto the Prophets' Words.
4 - "Applying the simplicity that is in Christ makes us prioritize people over processes and eternal relationships over short-term behaviors. We focus on 'the things that matter most' in God's work of salvation and exaltation instead of getting caught up in managing our ministering. We make ourselves free to prioritize the things we can do rather than being weighed down by the things we cannot do."
Application Idea: Study two general conference addresses delivered by Elder Dallin H. Oaks: 1) Why Do We Serve? (October 1984 General Conference); 2) Good, Better, Best (October 2007 General Conference). In particular, ponder these two quotes from the addresses: 1) "If our service is to be most efficacious, it must be accomplished for the love of God and the love of his children."; 2) "To our hundreds of thousands of home teachers and visiting teachers, I suggest that it is good to visit our assigned families; it is better to have a brief visit in which we teach doctrine and principle; and it is best of all to make a difference in the lives of some of those we visit. That same challenge applies to the many meetings we hold—good to hold a meeting, better to teach a principle, but best to actually improve lives as a result of the meeting."

Take Action
Clay's Application: Like Oma Cziesla, I'll memorize the lyrics and melodies of a few more favorite hymns to use regularly with my kids.
Mitch's Application: President Russell M. Nelson said: "I urge you to devote time each week—for the rest of your life—to increase your understanding of the Atonement of Jesus Christ." The more I understand the Savior's Atonement, the better I will know what He would have me do. To increase my understanding of the Atonement of Jesus Christ, I will continue listening to the "Seeking Jesus" podcast each week and start listening to the "BYU Speeches: Jesus Christ, Our Savior and Redeemer Podcast" each week. If I'm extra ambitious, I will periodically post a favorite quote from these podcasts on my personal social media account.
Reply to this email and tell us how you'll take action on one of these invitations and whether we can share your response in our newsletter, podcast, and/or on social media.
